Final Fantasy Online Official Benchmark Software

Benchmark Software
This benchmark software uses actual maps and characters to assign a score to your PC and rate its performance so you are prepared ahead of time. You cannot play Final Fantasy 14 with this, it is only to check your system requirements; it is still interesting. The software took a little while to download but nowhere near the length of a full installation at only 173mb. The choice was available to download it from Nvidia or Square-Enix. After downloading the file a simple installation process follows; it specifies Windows XP, Vista, or 7 in the requirements. For more information, and to download it, visit the official benchmark software page.

FFXIV Online Beta Changes Announced

June 23rd, 2010

@mogonlineFamitsu has released a short list of the changes between the alpha and the upcoming beta. We know they got rid of the effect gauge at E3, but here are a few more changes that we haven’t heard about yet.

Along with the removal of the Effect Gauge, the function of the Action Gauge has been altered. Previously, the player would need a full Action Gauge to execute a command, whereas now commands instead consume a specific portion of the gauge.

The Action Menu, where players can customize their list of actions, has been expanded to 30 slots. There are 10 slots allocated for Traits (class-specific characteristics) and Abilities (crafting-specific characteristics)

The "Physical Bonus" system, which affects HP/MP, stats and elemental affinities, has been changed. Now, HP/MP rise automatically along with the player’s level and only stats are customizable. Also, the list of stats has been adjusted from 8 to 6. Elemental affinities have been separated and will now require the use of "Elemental Bonus" points to increase.

Throwing weapons have been added and can be equipped and use the "Throw" action.

Left/Right Ear 1 and Left/Right Finger 2 equipment slots have been added.

New abilities can be set when a shield is equipped.

Distance and orientation relative to the enemy will have more of an effect on the battle.

The amount and variety of Guildleves has increased.

The level cap has been increased.

Players can now consume items.

Food has been introduced, which is used to temporarily strengthen a player character.

Changes have been made so the menus and chat logs are easier to read and navigate.

Final Fantasy Online: About Eorzea

June 2nd, 2010

In the world of Hydaelyn, the term Eorzea denotes the geographical region comprised of the continent of Aldenard and its’ surrounding islands, as well as the civilization which spawned there.

Calling the area home are several independent city-states, the most notable being Limsa Lominsa, bustling port and pirate hub; Ul’dah, a desert city rich in mineral wealth; Gridania, nested deep within an ageless wood; and Ishgard, bastion atop the mountains.

Throughout the Final Fantasy 14 realm climates vary from harsh to mild, as diverse as the skies are vast. Bleak, desolate landscapes stretch to uncharted horizons, their uninviting expanses yet to be traversed. Colossal monstrosities stalk the land, as if mountains primeval had somehow stirred and risen. Of all things Eorzea may be said to be, hospitable is not among them.

Final Fantasy XIV Development History

June 2nd, 2010

Final Fantasy XIV, previously codenamed Rapture, was first mentioned in August 2005, when Square Enix announced they had begun working on a new MMORPG, but neither confirmed nor denied that it was a sequel to Final Fantasy XI, or that it was Final Fantasy-related.

Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, stated in April 2006 that developers were working to make Rapture a worldwide release for the PlayStation 3 and Windows Vista, before announcing in February 2007 that the game was being developed for the Xbox 360 and for personal computers, and that it might be brought to the PlayStation 3 at some stage as well.

Square Enix announced at GDC 2008 that the new MMO was being targeted at all aforementioned systems and hinted that Mac and Linux clients would not be out of the question.

On June 2, 2009, at the Sony E3 Conference, Final Fantasy XIV was officially announced for the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows through a trailer mixing pre-rendered CGI and actual in-game sequences running from the Crystal Tools engine. The game will be produced by the same team working on Final Fantasy XI including Hiromichi Tanaka, and will be directed by Nobuaki Komoto. Akihiko Yoshida is the art director, and Nobuo Uematsu is composing the music. The game will have cross-platform servers between PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows, making all servers accessible from any country. The PlayOnline system will not be used for the game, but a solution is in the works for those wishing to easily switch between FFXIV and FFXI.

Since that time one year ago quite a bit has occurred and FFXIV is currently in the alpha test phase; soon to be in the beta test stages. FFXIV will be beta tested for longer than the 4 months that Final Fantasy XI was and is intended for release in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Final Fantasy Online: About Gameplay

May 24th, 2010

Final Fantasy XIV Online Gameplay ScreenshotFinal Fantasy XIV will be an MMORPG similar to Final Fantasy XI, but the game will feature no Experience point or level system, and will feature a new system of growth that will give players more freedom in choosing quests. Final Fantasy 14 focuses on character growth, and will expand upon the Job system used in Final Fantasy XI, and will feature a more involved story and more complex and varied quests. The game is intended to appeal to players who play on their own and so do not form large parties, but the option to play cooperatively with others will still be present. The game will not include a voice chat option, and is limited to text chat only.

During the game, the player character must join a guild in order to receive Guildleves, decorative cards which each hold a quest for the character to complete. The quests can include anything from hunting a specific monster to item collection or even negotiation with the enemies. The Guildleves can be completed alone or with a party of other players, with everyone being able to reap the benefits of the quest. The players can also multi-task on several leves at the same time.
